The Yard Man's Corner

Dehydrated Grass

Trying to make decisions about watering your yard? If you're like many Minnesotans, pulling out the hoses and setting timers isn't a huge priority when it's so hot and time to hit the lake. Try to give your yard about an inch of water per week during dry conditions, and it will be better able to defend itself against intruders. For most quarter-acre lots that works out to around 4hrs watering time. Keep grass longer than usual, 3" or higher. Also keep in mind that early morning is the best time to water as there will be less evaporation and you'll avoid potential fungus problems created by watering in the evening, when damaged roots are more likely to rot.
